I am an artist with a degree and experience in Interior Design. I became a licensed professional ASID designer and enjoyed my career.
All the while, I continued my art. What ignites me about art and design are color, ideas, pattern, and beauty.
When I came to this realization my art’s focus shifted to just that: high quality, distinct art for designers and their clients.
I changed my work schedule to have Tuesdays off so that I could join a friend and make art. It was an experiment. I brought a bag of art supplies and a sliver of an idea each week. I showed up ready to work and we did this for months. We talked art, ate art, made art sandwiches, pointed out colors, textures, techniques, hung art, mixed paint, went to see art, bought art supplies, wore cloaks of art and made art hats. We cocooned in art and could vaporize onlookers who misunderstood art. Art was our pronoun and our fingers became the brush. We did everything but question art. It was perfect and so, so hard to pack up the supplies each Tuesday evening. It was like the pencils would spill on the floor and roll just out of my reach. I thought. “So, don’t. Don’t put your supplies away. Don’t put your art aside. You couldn’t if you tried. You have found it, again. Do your art. Be your art. You are art.”
